Jesse Carey is a man among men. After being inspired by the Worst Idea of All Time podcast (where two men may have succeeded in naming their show, watching Grown Ups 2 every week for a year), he decided to test his mental endurance and sanity by listening to Nickelback 24/7 for the week of Feb. 16-22. Accomplishing this feat may be impressive enough by itself but Carey has decided to call out a challenge to others to donate money to Charity Water on the awesome Relevant Podcast. If he gets 10,000 dollars, roughly the cost of building one well, he’ll plunge headfirst into classics like Hero and Photograph.

Charity: Water takes donations in an effort to get clean water to those around the world without access to it. The organization was founded in 2006 and has helped fund 13,641 projects in 22 countries, benefiting over 4.6 million people. Overall, the they’ve raised over $155 million as of December 8, 2014. A hundred percent of the money given to the organization goes towards clean water. They raise other monies for staffing. You can find information on Jesse’s campaign and make a donation here.

I made a donation. And you should too.

You’ll be able to follow Jesse’s adventure on twitter @JesseCarey. Here are a few words from the man himself on the challenge page:

Question: Why 24/7 of Nickelback?

Answer: Because it is the ultimate test of human endurance. I’m willing to put my personal health at risk for the challenge. Obviously, exposure to such a large quantity of Nickelback is very dangerous.

Question: Jesse, have you consulted a doctor?

Answer: Yes, several in fact. They have all said that such an endeavor could result in irreversible damage to my ears, brain, kidneys and soul.

Question: Is listening to this much Nickelback even legal?

Answer: To my understanding, most jurisdictions frown on listening to more than 4 Nickelback songs back-to-back. I have retained several lawyers in case some hot-shot prosecutor decides to press charges.

KEYS TO VICTORY:

Here are the Nickelback Challenge Three Keys to Victory

1) Frequent Stretching

2) Hydration

3) Psychotic Breakdown Avoidance

Seems like Jesse might have it all figured out. So go donate and make sure his misery stands for something.

    1. Hm. I appreciate the input. But I think that’s missing the heart of this. Not everything is done in excellence. And I don’t see anything malicious here.
