Today is March 23rd, twenty sixteen. And this is the roundup!

Batman V Superman, a sweet name for a boat, and a quick look at the end of the NBA season. Let’s go!DC Comics is finally done flirting with the idea of combating Marvel’s massively successful shared cinema universe. Batman V Superman hits theaters this weekend. Myself and fellow podcast host Shawn will be attending a showing on Thursday. Hopefully I’m not consoling Shawn on the ride back home. Rotten Tomatoes did not think highly of the film, giving it a 42%. (Shoutout to Oliver.) There are movies already planned past this one, so it will be awkward if the film ends up with super negative reviews and box office results. I don’t really see huge changes to the current lineup but there are voices out there that do.

According to Drew McWeeny at Hit Fix, the film has some serious potential to do harm,

My guess is what’s going to happen is based on what I’m hearing…is Justice League is going to get moved back and that Ben Affleck Batman movie, that’s what’s going to end up in that spot. My guess is they’re going to throw whatever money it takes at Ben Affleck to make that Batman film happen sooner rather than later. They’re going to need to rebuild again, they’re going to need to win people over, they’re going to need to lay some different groundwork. I don’t think this is going to be the springboard into the Justice League that they wanted it to be.

There are also apparently rumors that the film needs to make a billion dollars for people to keep their jobs. In DC’s favor, Batfleck seems like a good fit and they’re using arguably the two most iconic comic characters of all time. Shawn and I will have thoughts of our own soon.

Sometimes crowdsourcing can be a great way to involve the people and drum up interest in a project. Lately though, it’s proven that large groups can get together and make things interesting in the name of humor. There is now a ship being built, a really large one at 128 meters long, at the Cammell Laird shipyard. It should be finished by 2019 as a way to help scientists explore the Arctic and Antarctic seas. A naming contest opened up last week and former BBC presenter James Hand offered up a rather odd name that so far seems to be the front-runner. The vessel is currently slated to be called the RRS Boaty McBoatface. The tide seems to be in its favor.

While March belongs to the NCAA and its hope-filled runs of Cinderella basketball teams, last second shots, and endless uses of the word bracketology, the NBA is still going strong. Until literally a few days ago, there was still the hope of two teams tying the Bulls all time wins record. That’s still in play for the Warriors. Golden State and the Spurs both stand a shot at going undefeated at home. Here, I’m going to take a stab at a few end results.

  • Western Conference Champ: Golden State Warriors.
  • Eastern Conference Champ: Washington Wizards.
  • Most Improved Player: Jae Crowder.
  • MVP: Stephen Curry.
  • Defensive Player of the Year: Rudy Gobert
