Do you have your Marvel Cinematic Universe release date bingo cards ready? Today Marvel announced not only the dates for its film releases for the next five years but gave a few mild surprises. With its formal announcement of Black Panther and Inhumans movies, they solidified mild speculation. Black Panther is a pretty major piece of the Marvel comic storylines and will be well used in the Civil War arc they’re looking to go forward with in the new Captain America flick. The Inhumans movie surely ties into the Thanos story bits in some way. I’m betting this movie owes its existence to the warm reception of this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxies. With the fondness that Marvel has for cameos, I’d be surprised if one of the Guardians didn’t show up fighting along Black Bolt and crew. It will be interesting to see how the house of Stan Lee ties all of this together. Kevin Feige has been on record saying that the Avengers roster will be altered by the ending of Avengers: Age of Ultron. This may allow other heroes to step up. With the third movie now being split into two films in an Infinity War, it may still be too little screen time to achieve the proper payoff of so many individual characters merging. I’m also hearing that the success of Guardians has Marvel thinking about going with their team for the Infinity War releases. Joss Whedon handled many personalities excellently in the first film, so I’m not sure this would be a good move.

As for what we can be looking forward to ponying up for at movie theaters in the coming years, here’s what Marvel came out with today:

  • May 1, 2015: “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”
  • July 17, 2015: “Ant-Man”
  • May 6, 2016: “Captain America: Civil War.”
  • Nov. 4, 2016: “Doctor Strange.”
  • May 5, 2017: “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”
  • July 28, 2017: “Thor: Ragnarok.”
  • Nov. 3, 2017: “Black Panther.”
  • May 4, 2018: “The Avengers: Infinity War — Part I.”
  • July 6, 2018: “Captain Marvel.”
  • Nov. 2, 2018: “Inhumans.”
  • May 3, 2019: “The Avengers: Infinity War — Part II.”

That looks like a slate of goodness to me. I’m going to start my popcorn fund now.
